Alison is a front line GP in Bristol, and alongside her clinical work has developed an interest in sepsis. She has been working with colleagues at the RCGP and Health Education England to develop resources for GPs and was also a member of the NICE guidelines development group for the early recognition and management of sepsis in children and adults. A recurrent theme has been the need for high quality, evidence based, safety-netting advice for patients and families. Alison feels strongly that videos are an excellent way of sharing this information, and could have a significant role in supporting parents making the difficult decision whether their child is ‘just ill’ or ‘really sick’.
Her work with the patient safety team at the AHSN is varied, but much of it involves the use of NEWS (National Early Warning Scores) to facilitate the detection of the deteriorating patient and improve communication between health care settings.
Alison also works in professional sport and is the medical officer at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
